When The Sims 4: Seasons was released, we were given a new type of flying pet to care for and beekeeping was added to the game.

Beekeeping is a great hobby for your sims to start with and can even earn your sims some money if you decide to sell the honey your bees produce. You can even improve your gardening in the game if you take care of your bees!

To get started with beekeeping in the sims 4, you'll need to buy Burtie's bee box for §265 and it can be found in the outdoor activities section, or you can just search for "bertie's bee box" You can actually put your bee box inside or outside, but it's rare for a real human being to want a bee box inside their home, but it's up to you!

The season your sims are in will influence the way your bees act. Just like in real life, your bees will be inactive in winter, slightly active in spring or autumn and extremely active in summer. This will happen whether your bees are indoors or outdoors.

When you first start beekeeping, you will be stung a couple of times until you can start building a relationship with your bees. When you get stung you will have an unpleasant feeling that will last for a few hours.

There are a number of interactions your sim can make with Bertie's beekeeping box:

Bonding with your bees will help you increase your relationship with your bees and can get you to the point where you can unlock some new interactions. You should try to bond with your bees every day to keep them happy.

Every 8 hours your sims will be able to collect honey and the longer you wait, the more you will be able to collect. At 8 hours, you can collect one jar of honey, but if you wait 24 hours, you can collect 3 jars of honey at the same time. Honey can have different qualities and this is decided by how happy your bees are and the relationship you have with them.

When your sims develop a high enough relationship (about 30%) with their bees, they can start collecting swarms of bees and can persuade them to perform various tasks.

Using disruptive interaction on your bees will irritate and anger them. Sometimes you will have a playful mood, but sometimes the bees will attack and you will have an uncomfortable mood.

Your bees will often be infested with mites and these mites will make your bees angry. You have to apply an anti-mite treatment to get rid of them, but they will probably sting you unless you wear a beekeeper's suit.

Your bees have a social need that is a bit like normal sims, and they need to be tied up and well looked after. The longer you ignore your bees, the less happy your bees will be, and angry bees are more likely to sting you. You need to make sure your sim is interacting with their bees by choosing bee bonding at least once a day so that your bees feel calm. Even if your bees don't produce honey in winter, your sim can still interact with them.

Note: If you have a crocus flower within 5 tiles of the bee box, your bees will be calm more often and for longer.

Fortunately, you can change your Sims into a beekeeper suit to protect them from getting stung. When you're giving your bees treatments against mites, it's important to wear the beekeeper suit because it's very likely that your bees will be a bit angry and you'll have a better chance of getting stung.

However, you can't swarm while wearing the suit or bond with your bees, so you won't always be protected from the risk of being stung by bees. The beekeeper suit also doubles as warm weather clothing, so you don't have to worry about your sim overheating while beekeeping.

There is always the possibility that your bees will be infested by mites. To solve this problem you should put on your beekeeping suit and give your bees a mite treatment for §15. The longer your bees are infested with mites, the angrier they will be at you, which means they will bite you a lot more! So make sure you take care of your bees and their mites as soon as possible.

If you create a large enough relationship with your bees, you will be able to unlock the ability to collect a swarm of bees that will appear in your sim's inventory. A swarm of bees can be collected every 3 hours from each box of bees you have in your batch.

Note: a swarm of bees will disappear after 5 hours from your home inventory, so use it wisely!

You can use a swarm of bees to do a number of things for your sim:

You can collect honey from your bee box after only 8 hours and you will be given one jar of honey. If you wait 24 hours for your bee box to be completely full, you will be given 3-4 jars of honey. If you hover your mouse over the bee box, you will be able to see exactly how much honey is in the box,

You can create different qualities of honey and this depends on your relationship with your bees. The first jars of honey you collect will not be of the best quality, but if you take care of your bees and keep bonding with them you will be able to create better honey that will be sold for §60.

If your sim decides to only consume honey instead of selling it, they will receive a happy moodlet and for the next 4 hours they will be immune to the weather. They could spend hours outside in a heatwave and be completely fine. You can also use the freshly harvested honey to make a honey cake or brew a cup of honey tea using the Tea Magical Brewer.

Having a bee box in your garden can really enhance the plants you are growing and quickly they are able to evolve. When you are not doing any specific interaction with your bees, they will come out and pollinate all the plants that are within 5 grid squares of the bee box.

Your bee box can also give off an aura that will add a fertilising bonus to your plants that can help you grow plants faster and better. If you're working towards the freelance botanist aspiration, this can be useful because you'll reach the perfect state with your plants sooner.

Since the gardening update, there is a lot less to do every day to look after a garden, so it is a good idea to work on beekeeping to get that extra bonus as you now have some time saved up.

Becoming a beekeeper in The Sims 4 is a really cool option for a hobby for your Sims, but it can also earn you money in the game or really help you with your gardening.
