Huge list of the best mods for The Sims 4

Trucchithesims List of the best mods for TS4

Mods can add a lot of value to players who are looking for new experiences in The Sims 4 or when they are a little bored between new expansion packs. Many modders have their own sites and don't host their files elsewhere, so mods for this game can be a bit scattered. For this reason I decided to curate a list of good quality mods that are up to date at the time of writing and revisit it at times to remove mods that are out of date and add new finds.

Help Mods

How to install mods

Changes are placed on the hard disk, but varies between PCs/Macs:

PC Windows: / Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods /

Mac: use the Finder and go to / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods /

Mods must be enabled in the game options menu to work. Mods that are zipped may require extraction. See the installation instructions for each mod for more information. You can organize your mod folder using 1 level of subfolders under The Sims 4 / Mods / but no more. Script mods can only be read so deep, but if you want you can sort CC a little deeper at 3-4 levels.

You can find more detailed information on the use of Mods and CC in The Sims 4 here.

Best construction / purchase

by TwistedMexi

Maxis gave us access to their Live Edit build objects, but left them all named Debug. TwistedMexi's Better Build / Buy will give you a much better view of an increasingly bloated build catalogue. It allows you to view up to 5 rows of items by simply pressing the 1 key on your keyboard. This will prevent you from having to enter those long cheats you need to get those new items, because debugging and live editing both have categories in the menu on the right now. Internally these items have better catalogue names, so use them instead of calling them all debug. This makes it much easier to find a certain rock or vehicle to decorate your next building project with.

Functional chicken coop

by icemunmun

Icemunmun has revived the functional chicken coop from the Sims 3 shop era. This allows your Sim to invest money in raising chickens, and after buying one, you can gradually get eggs. Just be careful which eggs you let your Sims eat - you can get food poisoning from a bad egg. You can also look for Easter eggs, which make Sims happy with a small +1 bonus for an entire day.

Get to work Active career aspirations

by konansock

Get to Work's active careers lack aspirations related to them. The whole pack does, I guess. But this mod addresses that and adds aspirations for scientist, doctor and detective. As a bonus, it gives a Frankenstein aspiration of using scientists' inventions to cause chaos.

XML injector

of Scumbumbo

For XML Injector, I just want to briefly explain why so many mods might ask you to download it. Each game file can only be touched by one mod. If a modder uses XML Injector, not only will he be less likely to need to update his mod, but he will also be able to insert new abilities for Sims into the main list without messing with other things. For this reason, XML Injector deserves a mention. Scumbumbo died in 2019, but the mods he created are being updated by a team of modders. The utility mods he created were responsible for a number of mods in this list, and he provided support to people who would become talented modders by helping them fix problems.

Stand for retail products

of Brazen Lotus

Brazen Lotus has made these cute vegetable stands that you can use in retail lots to sell produce one at a time to Sims. It's based on the Lice Cold Feezer from Get to Work. This is a nice and simple way to add some realism to your Sim's gardening efforts.

AllCheats

by TwistedMexi

Some of the most powerful cheat commands are now blocked by players. Allcheats by TwistedMexi allows you to cheat on time, pregnancies and anything else about fans that EA doesn't want you to touch.

A glimpse of life

by KawaiiStacie

KawaiiStacie's Slice of Life Mod deserves more space than I can give it here, but it's great. The Slice of Life mod features a personality system that offers a total of 16 different personality types, such as thinker or nurturer, that alter how Sims will behave on their own and what skills and caeer are right for them. Also, when Sims are sad, they may have tears in their eyes or blush when embarrassed. There are several miscellaneous additions such as a menstrual cycle, a new phone menu that allows you to develop skills with the phone and a new body type system that can make Sims insecure. This is also a mod that brings a risky woohoo, so you never know when you use it if a Sim might get pregnant.

Changes to Basemental

of Basemental

I can't even mention Basemental Mods here, but no list would be complete without mentioning them, as they are very popular. Basemental Mods add adult and criminal activities and even addictions to The Sims 4. Get a particular add-on and you might even find yourself in an organised group of like-minded individuals who make a living selling treats to adults! Basemental makes unique use of places like the jungle, allowing you to make visits to protect your goods. Basemental's mods are very well made, but designed for an adult audience only.

Google is your friend.

Tragedies of life

of Sacrificial

You know what The Sims 4 doesn't have much of? Tragedy! Sacrificial's Life Tragedies mod incorporates many horrible things that can happen to your Sims, such as getting hit by a car, getting beaten up by a bully... or worse, with kidnappings and other horrible things happening to your Sims. You may even contract a fatal disease that requires surgery and that surgery may fail. You yourself can be a horrible person and could be arrested if you choose to be. This is a mod for people who want to see things that could happen in the real world happen to their Sims. It's not for everyone, but it becomes a bit more accessible that you can use it with various options that can disable tragedies for particular Sims or make them happen less often.

Bunk beds

by Ravasheen & PandaSama

At least two Simminis have made working bunk beds. They're not perfect, but they definitely achieve the space-saving benefit that bunk beds offer to families with multiple children. As you can see, this is achieved by creating more pieces to assemble in Build mode. Get the frame, ladder and mattress in place. This one is from Ravasheen, who uses some sort of teleportation to get the Sim to the top and has to deal with Sims 4's bed animations when he leaves. I like how he sends them up there. PandaSama's solution is for the little ones and, once assembled, will allow them to climb up to the second bunk. Definitely a great mod for families with a couple of kids to raise.

Melanin package 2

of Xmiramira

People have been waiting for EA to fix the skin tones in The Sims 4. There aren't many, or they look bad. Like many other things that have been improved ... modders have already done it. Mira's Melanin Pack 2 doubles or triples the amount of skin tones available in the game for all races, allowing you to create the Sim you want or a Sim that looks like you. I thought I'd seen citizens spawn with these custom skin tones too. If you want a more diverse world, this is a mod you must have.

Wicked whims

of TURBODRIVER

As with Basemental's mods, it would be ridiculous to make a list like this and not acknowledge TurboDriver's evil whims. I can't show footage on this platform, but I have a feeling most of you already know what's there in general. What you might not know is that it also has a rather popular attraction system, which gives Sims actual preferences in areas like eye colour or hair length. It might even alert you if your Sim sees a Sim they are totally interested in. There is a streamer mode version of Wicked Whims that will censor it. You can also install it yourself without customising the settings. There are many, many optional locations and scenarios that the animators have created for this mod.

Have some personality, please!

of Polarbearsims

I think the main goal of Polarbearsims' Have Some Personality Please is to remove inactive chats and have Sims actually perform interactions when they talk. So the choices of interactions they might use could vary ... a lot. They'll use things like ask about the day or learn about and you can actually learn traits from idle chat. Also, they can use average interactions on their own. This mod also features Risky Woohoo with respect to the 0% probability of the game having a baby unless you try, which forces you to decide when a Sim is ready for pregnancy.

Armageddon

of Sacrificial

Sacrificial's Armageddon mod lets you play as a superhero in Sims 4. It's changed a lot since I made a video about it during my first year on YouTube. Since then, the ability to play as a super villain has been added. You know, instead of saving the Sims you'll actively fight to make the world a little more criminal and get some awesome powers like... yeah, like that. The description of this ability says that it propels a Sim in The Sims 5. Either way, whether you're a superhero or a villain, you'll be able to do missions and increase your power level while using Sacrificial's signature on top animations that make them so fun to watch / Usually the first time I'm so shocked at what I just saw that I burst out laughing. I love it.

Going to school

of Zerbu

If you have Get to Work installed, get the Zerbu Go to School mod, then go to the gallery and install a primary or high school for your child to attend. Make sure the design you choose from the gallery has a teacher's podium. If not, you may need to place one yourself and set the plot type to Primary School. I have a nice school but the teacher didn't do anything because it seemed to have the wrong podium type. Once set up, my Sim's child could attend school and do "Go to work" style tasks such as asking questions in class, playing an instrument or drawing in the art room. It's worth noting that if you have trouble completing all the tasks, you can stay late by clicking the x just like you can with Get to Work Careers. An interesting thing to mention is that all the children in your world will attend this school once you have created yourself, and you can make a high school for teenagers.

The drama of life

of Sacrificial

Sacrificial's Life's Drama Mod adds a social popularity system to the game and as your Sim becomes more popular, other Sims may approach you to help them solve problems. It also has this gossipy vibe, because your Sim can learn dirty secrets about others and spread them around, quite literally. You can be a bit of a backstabber, get dirty secrets of other Sims, add them to the burnt book and spread their secrets all over the place for people to see. Other Sims will read these secrets and hate the target ... fight them and stir up drama.

Many more mods by LittleMsSam

By LittleMsSam

LittleMsSam makes many, many small changes that solve problems or improve things based on its own annoyances with the game. Let friends age is a good example: it will age your Sims' friends all at once, which makes sense... and is also a matter of convenience. It has a lot to browse through, so I suggest you use its mod list and look around. There are many standalone mods, but also small random mods. You can also download all his small random mods in one package and look through the files to see what you'd like to keep or launch.

Invisible fence

of Bakie

Sims often take a straight line to get somewhere, especially in housing estates. Bakie's invisible fence mod will keep those inconsiderate Sims off your lawn. If you have a nice curvy pavement, you can force Sims to stay on that path as they make their way to your door. It's a nice utility that adds a touch of realism and has many potential applications.

Customised traits

by Various modders

ModTheSims has a huge traits area where you can download individual traits for your Sims, some of which are very specific. Like, do you want your Sim to have narcolepsy or bipolar I? You can do that! I'm not kidding when I say that the Sims modding community has covered a lot of mental illnesses, but there are also some more lighthearted things like being good at cooking or inept at cooking.

Nectar Maker

by icemunmun

I don't want too many items in this list (this is more in the realm of CC), but icemunmun's nectar maker is not only a game item, but also includes a 10-level nectar making skill. This gives your Sim the ability to make better drinks. You will literally stomp on the fruit and use the fermentation powers to make a delicious drink for Sim that can be used as a money maker or mood booster. One thing I like about this is that it's not just simple things like apple nectar, it also allows you to combine various fruits and flowers to make special drinks.

Live In Business

by LittleMsSam

I did a whole video on LittleMsSam's mods, but in a list like this his Live In Business mod deserves a mention as much as any other. This allows you to sell items directly from your sim's home, something Get to Work didn't allow you to do. It also gives you a sort of retail system without the need to get to work, so kudos for that. Best of all, it doesn't just sell things, but also things like Live in Gym, Bars, Clubs or even Day Care. You can ask Sims to accompany their children for you to watch over them until they're done working. They really trust you with their children!

Live Drag

by TwistedMexi

Live Drag allows you to drag things around while in Live mode, allowing you to make changes to things without having to press F2 and enter build mode, move it around and return to the game. It's a small and convenient mod along with its many other build-related mods. You can also find things like Always Freebuild, Always Moveobjects and Coastal Basements and Pools. It's all good stuff.

No Intro

of Simser der Deutschen

No introduction is a godsend for when you edit, or if you just want to save some time every time you open Sims 4. It replaces videos that run at the beginning with empty files, then goes straight to loading the main menu. It's useful and deserves a brief mention.

Supespeed Mod

by Artum

With Artum's Supespeed mod, you unlock the game's maximum speed setting to be used even when a Sim isn't sleeping, so you can progress through time without breaking things. It's incredibly useful when you're just testing something, just be ready to slow it down again. The "3" key acts as a switch with this mod, so if you use it stop it by pressing 3 again or the next time you press 3 you'll be in super speed.

TOOL.

by TwistedMexi

People have done amazing things with TwistedMexi's TOOL, one of the most innovative mods on this list. It stands for Takes Objects Off Lot, and does exactly that. This has only gotten better with time, as Mexi has learned some new tricks over the past year. With TOOL, you can build something and move all the pieces out of your lot and lift or rotate them according to your needs. It takes a bit of getting used to, but Mexi has a tutorial on her channel that gives you an overview of all the functions, what they do and small problems you might encounter while using it. More recently, the mod has been updated to allow you to assemble something in your batch and move it all into a group. You can actually select everything between two areas. Because of TOOL's ability to actually allow builders to improve neighborhoods in a way that extends beyond the boundaries of many, it is a very useful mod.

Master Magic

of Zero

Zero's Master Magic mod adds three new specialisations to the spellcasting system, allowing your Sim to specialise in practical, malicious or wild magic. Practical and savage are on opposite sides, so a practical wizard will have more difficulty casting savage spells, while a malicious wizard will only suffer a little in the other two schools. It also adds some new interactions to the sages that can be used during training.

Hidden mods

of Zero

In general, Zero has some great mods for the occult in Sims 4, not just Master Magic. One thing a lot of players will like is the ability to create an Enchanter/Vampire hybrid. Vampire Magic requires Realm of Magic but will give vampires special access to the spellcasting system, making them more effective at night but having difficulty casting a spell during the day. You can also get black magic, allowing you to sell the souls of other Sims to learn spells.

Self-Configurable Autonomy Mod (SCAM)

of scumbumbo

Scumbumbo's configurable autonomy mode allows you to take extreme control over the Sims' autonomy. This mod is actually now a part of the Deaderpool Master Controller, though you can also use it on its own. You shouldn't use it if you have MCCC. What it does do is it allows you to block Sims from certain autonomous actions, so you can allow autonomy for certain things but customize what Sims will do with their free will. The best thing about this is that it keeps the text file where it stores the interactions, so you can do this for every save.

Extension Mod user interface tricks

of weerbesu

Would you like to be able to simply click on cheats to fill them? If you want to be able to control cheats with the mouse, you need the UI Cheats Extension mod. Now, it's one that requires frequent updates because every time the developers touch the UI it breaks, so it's worth mentioning. Delete it if you've patched and give weerbesu time to update it. This only gets better with time, but you have to watch out for its power: you can remove moodlets and automatically complete tasks with a single click!

Resorts and Hotels

by KawaiiStacie

This seems to be a fairly recent version of Kawaii Stacie. You build a resort lot and schedule an event on your Sim's phone. You can use the Become a Resort Owner event to activate ownership of a resort lot and from then on you'll have a Resort skill that you can gradually level up. It's definitely a profitable one and uses get to work style gameplay. In Sims 3 days there was a resort ownership option, so it's kinda cool that a modder brought it back. It's something you imagine a very rich Sim doing with all that extra money, sticking it into real estate and increasing their wealth. We used a resort from gnd968 in the gallery and modified it to fit this lot in Sulani. Looks nice, doesn't it?

More CAS columns

of weerbesu

Creating a Sim is becoming more and more cluttered with each package and it can be difficult to find a specific shirt in the list. With More CAS Columns from weerbesu, you can expand the current 2 columns to 3, 4 or 5 depending on which version you download.

Significant stories

by roBurky

RoBurky's Meaningful Stories is a mod that aims to overhaul the emotion system to make a little more sense, making Sims a little more stable but also increasing negative emotions. For example, being sad and uncomfortable at the same time will probably make you feel that sadness a bit more. Happy is your mood, but it only happens here and there. Emotional inertia also helps prevent mood reversal by gradually changing your mood to a new state not just because a random moodlet occurred. One thing I really like about this mod is that going for a jog to clear your head or using a punching bag to suppress anger is more useful, because negative moods can last much longer and aren't as easily covered up as they are base game.

Education system package

by KawaiiStacie

This mod is many in one, as Kawaii Stacie had previously made better schools and high schools. By downloading this all-in-one, you will be able to enroll children in kindergarten and have a lot more interaction when children and teenagers are at school. You can do things like skill development exercises or work on the next day's homework before the lesson is even over. So the main goal is to give tones of work to children and teenagers that make school attendance a little more realistic. You will also acquire skills while doing your homework and you will be able to attend school online.

MC Command Center

of Deaderpool

MC Command Center in Deaderpool is next. Evil whims aside, I'd say this is probably one of the most popular mods, so most people know how easy it is to tweak game settings and do things like change a Sim's traits. It only gets better once you get to know its many menus. This mod has a lot of extra modules included in its zip package that will give you more in-depth options for specific things like occult, clubs, pregnancy and population changes. You can use just the modules you need for the installation, or go with the whole package if you have all the packages.

Become a sorcerer

of Triplis

Become a Sorcerer is another mod that we can't spend enough time on, but it is a huge success. After investigating a suspicious piece of clay, your Sim gets magical powers. Once your Sim has done this, you will have to choose a ritual that gives you the type of sorcerer you will be playing with. This mod actually has an alignment system, where casting lots of white or dark magic spells will change your Sim's alignment and how quickly they learn spells from that school. It's a detailed mod and seems to be more successful with its magic system as the real Game Pack Realm of Magic. I'm not exaggerating: it uses some game effects but the list of spells is huge and there is replayability here. Black arts spells, white arts spells, domination spells, destruction spells and greed spells that feature a wide range of powers. You definitely want to try this mod if you like playing a caster.

Eating and drinking faster

of cyclelegs

While many mods on this list are bigger, the glacially slow pace of Sims eating is an annoyance to enough players that anything that solves this problem deserves a mention here. Use the Eat and Drink Faster mode to get exactly what you'd expect. Sims will eat as if they were really hungry people. They won't stop chatting altogether, they'll just do it less.

Road to Fame

of Sacrificial

Sacrificial's Road to Fame existed well before the release of The Sims 4 Get Famous and its availability hasn't hindered this mod. It allows you to take the path of a model, singer or actress, so it has good replay value. If you enjoy leveling up in fame, you'll also love that your Sims can hire bodyguards and even perform in concerts with this mod. That's right, you can actually perform for a crowd of Sims and papparazi. I tried the singer for a while, but I'm definitely going to revisit this mod for an in-depth look. I like that you can drop Sims into a black hole with a trap if you don't like them. If you have an obsessed fan, don't worry ... you can call the police to the rescue.

Work from home Mods

by NoelleBelleFleur

NoelleBelleFleur has created over a dozen mods that aim to take careers from the base game and convert them to be of the Work From Home variety you see in City Living. If you want to work from home as an astronaut, athlete, job or entertainer, this is a mod that will solve that problem for you. Also, given the number of office-type careers that are moving to work at home right now, it seems very appropriate to mention that this is also possible in The Sims.

Height sliders

by luumia

Luumia's mod adds height sliders to the game and allows you to adjust the height of your Sims. Although any mod that attempts to alter the height in this game will have problems, as Sims 4 wasn't built with this in mind, players who want an extra tall or short Sim might be willing to overlook the clipping issues and some from near animations it creates.

Playable animals

by Andrew and Orangemittens

Andrew and Orangemittens have unlocked the player's ability to control pets, something that wasn't present in Sims 4 but existed in the past. This will allow you to use them just like Sims and will also allow you to see their needs. This mod mainly removes blocking and may have issues because some interactions were not meant to be used on the player side. Great for getting animals to do something you need for a story, or just to joke around in the game.

Social activities

by LittleMsSam

This is such a simple mod but seems like child's play when you think about it. Sims regularly go down rabbit holes, but if you had the choice to do so, how would you send them out with a friend so that they would independently fill up on social without your involvement? That's what LittleMsSam's Social Activities Mod accomplishes. It's not just social, but also things like sending your pet to a pet sitter, going to a circus or art show, or independently going on a date with a chosen Sim. If you also install his First Love mod, you can even send your child to visit his crush.
