We've finally been honoured with The Sims 4: Discover University and it's a very exciting time for the community. When they go to school, your sims can now take out student loans and decide for themselves to repay them.
How to get student loans
When your sim is about to enrol at university, he/she will be able to choose his/her school, where he/she will live, the lessons he/she will take and finally how he/she will pay for them.
You will be given the choice to pay for school with your family's funds or you can choose to take out student loans.
The amount of money you will pay for tuition is not much, so you won't end up with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans, so don't worry too much!
How to repay student loans
To pay off your student loans, you can click on the mailbox or computer and choose to make a student loan payment.
There will be a minimum payment that must be made based on how much you have withdrawn, but you can make a payment of any amount.
You can choose to pay them back with only the minimum payments every few days for your sim, or you can pay them in full and eliminate that debt immediately after graduation.
What happens when you don't repay your student loans?
There are consequences if your sim decides not to repay your student loans. You will get your things back to help you repay part of your debt, but not all of it.
My Sim, Addelyn, graduated from University with a degree in Psychology on a Tuesday with 1,300 simoleons in student loans. On Wednesday, she still hadn't made a payment and received her first and only warning.
Since Addelyn decided to ignore this warning, she continued with her life and on Friday the man from the depot came to see her.
Those of you who have played The Sims 2 will be happy to know that the recovery man once again has a scary laser gun that will suck up your stuff when he takes it away.
It is important to note that this does not absolve your student loans. You still have to repay your debt! If you still do not make your student loan payments, the repo man will continue to visit you until you have paid them in full.
Student loans in The Sims 4 really add that feeling of realism to the game and is a welcome addition to university for most of us. What do you think of the team adding student loans? Are you excited that we now have them in the game? Or do you simply wish to pay for it with your family's funds? Let me know in the comments!
