The Sims 4 Discover University introduces a new type of organisation your sim can join, The Order of Enchantment, a secret society for students attending Britechester University.
They were first introduced to sim players in the Discover University trailer and most players were very excited to see how they worked. However, joining the secret society isn't as straightforward as some might hope, making the process a bit confusing, so we'll go through all the steps you need.
This article will be littered with spoilers, so please, if you want to find out about the secret society yourself, maybe don't read it? Your turn!
Where to find the secret society?
The secret society has meetings every week in the Gibbs Hill district, the area between Foxbury Institute and the University of Britechester.
You will find them next to the ruins in the lower left corner of the Gibbs Hill map. They will meet after midnight in the area where the rocks are in a strange circular formation.
However, going to these meetings when you are not a member of the secret society will get you nowhere. They will not answer your questions and will scatter when you arrive, so you must follow other methods to join their society.
How to join the Secret Society
Becoming a member of the secret society is actually quite easy in The Sims 4: Discover University. You don't even need to become friends with anyone, you just need to make an offer to the statue on your school's campus.
The offering you make is important, you can't just bring something to the statue or you won't join their ranks. An offering that works will give your sim a focused moodlet called surreal focus that lasts for a few hours, that's how you know it works.
The surreal focus moodlet says "X has a mysterious positive feeling about that offer. Almost as if it has somehow made someone, somewhere very happy. The world seems a little brighter."
If it doesn't work, you might see something like a focused moodlet that says academic success? and that's a good sign that you should try again. There's also laser focus, I see this as meaning "you're getting close, but try again".
We have found that a high quality bakery product will work, which can be difficult to find on campus as you don't have access to any ovens. If you live in a dorm, you can take one of the baked goods that your roommates will eventually leave around and try to use it.
You can also give high quality collectibles, but they have to be really valuable and of high quality to get you into society.
If your sim offers something of poor quality, it will get a tense moodlet and is never fun, so make sure the items are of high quality.
Being accepted into the Secret Society
Once you have made your offer and obtained the necessary moodlet, you will have to wait a while. The secret society will come to your sim's house (or dormitory) at night, usually that night or the next night. The following pop-up will appear:
You will have the option to accept by clicking ok or decline the offer to join their ranks by choosing no thanks. You will now be able to see all of their information, even when meeting in the organisations panel in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
In search of the secret society
If you want to join the secret society, you will need to find out information. This information can be found with the research machines in the libraries and municipalities of the Athenaeum.
If you go in now and try to search for the local secret society directly from the gate, you might get this message:
Error 404. Something went wrong with your search 🙁 Please try again or revise your request.
You will not actually be able to find out information about the secret society research machine until you have actually joined yourself.
After you have made your bid and been taken by the company, you can research information about the company so that you feel more informed about what you are doing and who you are associating with.
You can read stories like this:
The end of an era
In the second year of The Order of Enchantment, their founder Ester Mudget spoke at a charity auction about the importance of using all natural ingredients for cooking. Why she chose that topic of discussion in the first place for this particular event is a separate mystery.
Midway through this infamous speech, Mrs Mudget suddenly and dramatically ran off into the woods, leaving the auction baffled. It was later revealed internally that she had abused and betrayed the Sprites, apparently ignoring their pleas for entertainment and depriving them of the investigation they craved.
And all the while she had been reaping the academic and social benefits they had bestowed upon her. It was her greed and ignorance that eventually led to her tragic downfall. According to legend, she is still out there, lost forever, chasing wandering darts of light, her hair in disarray. No comb in sight.
The fate of Ester Mudget reminds you to revere and respect the Sprites so as not to incur their wrath.
Or this gem of a story:
The origin of the Order
The spirits on which the origin of the existence of spells is based had been virtually unknown to humans until the turn of the century. A chance encounter with an energetic young scientist named Esther Mudget changed the face of history forever.
Esther had been studying the pollination patterns of wild mushrooms and her research led her to Gibbs Hill. It was here that she encountered the most fascinating spiral pattern of fungi behind the castle ruins. Intrigued, she began to spend more and more time there studying.
One afternoon, thanks to his polite new neighbours, he brought a piece of fresh fruit cake to the mushroom site. He placed the cake on a nearby rock as he went about his work. Before long, he began to hear a strange whistling sound. She knew this sound wasn't human, so her instincts told her to make a corny joke in hopes of dispelling a bad situation.
Apparently the spirits liked his joke, and they liked his fruit cake very much.
The unarmed sprites came out of hiding and allowed Esther to see them in their true sparkling form. They whispered jokes and mysteries of the universe into her ears. Little did she know that this would be the beginning of a tender, if ill-fated relationship."
Meetings of the secret society
Every week the Secret Society has two meetings that you should attend. Why shouldn't you? You are now a member of an elite group.
Your sim will have a few meetings a week that take place from 10pm to 2am, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. These events are a ritual celebration of Sprite.
Benefits of the Secret Society
When you become a member of the secret society, your sim is now able to see the Sprites on campus. These Sprites need you to make them happy and can give you some serious benefits.
Once you are a member of the Secret Society, you will be visited by a Sprite Visitor. These sprites are very needy and can ruin your day if you ignore them, but they will give you great moodlet rewards if you make them happy.
When a visitor sprite appears, you will see the following notification:
"X" has been visited by a Sprite! Sprites love a good show, so be sure to entertain them with naughty, funny or romantic socials with other Sims. A happy Sprite is a generous Sprite, and certainly wouldn't want to be boring."
When the sprite first appears, it will be silver and will appear above your sim's head and fly around waiting to be entertained. If you make enough romantic, funny or mischievous socials in a short period of time, you will be rewarded with a 12 hour moodlet.
An example of some moodlets that a Sprite can give you is Loved By Sprites, Flirty +3. This moodlet will last 12 hours and says:
"X made the Sprites so happy, they gave him a temporary boost in romantic prowess. Now might be a good time for him to finally talk to that classmate he's had a crush on."
You can also get an inspired moodlet that says Loved by Sprites, Flirty +3. This moodlet will last 12 hours and says:
"The Sprites love the attention X has given them so much, they have honoured him with a temporary gift of inspiration. For the time being he will make superior art and music, as well as the ability to acquire creative skills faster.
When this moodlet occurs, the colour of the Sprites will change to minimise the colour of the moodlet. When they are flirting, they will be pink. When they are inspired, they will be blue.
However, if you fail to entertain the sprites, you will see less desirable effects. If the sprites are angry with you, they will give you a tense moodlet and make it difficult for your sim to do anything for a few hours.
They even attacked my sim, Blaine, for hours while he was trying to sleep, waking him up numerous times.
When you attend a meeting of The Order of Enchantm
ent, you will be surrounded by other members of the secret society. You will be able to make some new interactions with these members, including:
Ask the reason for joining the Order of Enchantment
Ask about the mission of the Order of Enchantment
Ask how to make the sprite happy
Making these interactions will give you interesting information about the society, but will also show you that some members do not know if they should stay.
Secret Society levels
Simply joining the secret society is not enough, you have to do things to make the Sprites happy and spend time at meetings with your fellow members.
To level up within the company there are a number of tasks you can complete, these include things like:
- Offer metal at the ritual altar
- Offer a harvest at the ritual altar
- Food Offer at the Ritual Altar
- Take care of the spirit garden
- Offer a crystal at the ritual altar
You should also attend meetings and talk to other members so that you can level up a little faster. This will take some time, so be patient. It is worth it.
Grade 1: New member
When you join the society, you will be a new member. You will be given clothes and masks of the level 1 order and will have the opportunity to offer things to the Sprites at the ritual altar and to be visited by the Sprites during your days.
Grade 2: expert member
When your sim is an experienced member of the order of spells, he/she will receive brand new clothes to wear, as well as being able to perform a new interaction in which he/she can perform a sprite attack on other sims.
A sprite attack will make the target sim tense and probably make him dislike it a little.
Grade 3: senior member
When you are a senior member of the secret society, your sim will get grade 3 robes that are cute! You will also be given a new ability to summon powerful sprites for your own use.
Leaving the secret society
If your sim decides to leave the secret society, you can easily do so in the club/organization panel. However, when I had a sim with a busy schedule leave the society, I was still visited by Sprites.
I think this can be a member's situation, forever a member.
Participating in The Order of Enchantment is a great addition to any student's journey through The Sims 4: Discover University. We're really excited to have a secret society back in the game! Let us know what you think in the comments!
